Home From the Front
During November 2018 students of University Campus Barnsley commemorated the end of World War One, 100 years on, by recreating the ‘journey home’ of millions of men and women from the front.
The innovative event was curated and delivered by students and allowed visitors to experience and re-live the real life stories of villagers from Elsecar, Wentworth and Hoyland, who served in, or supported the war effort, whilst enjoying a steam train journey in a carriage reminiscent of the 1918 period.
The 13 month long project was a great success with over 1000 people visiting Elsecar Heritage Centre to experience the truly unique train trip.
WE Great Place were delighted to support the event alongside Elsecar Heritage Centre. Rachel Blake, Great Place Programme Manager, said: “Great Place was thrilled to support this innovative event in Elsecar. It really did bring local history to life.”
The vision for this event was truly magical and painted such an eloquent picture in reality, you can find out more about ‘Home From the Front’ here.
